My Biggest Fear

Last night Phil & I went to the Phoenix Park again for what was meant to be a 7 mile run. Unfortunately, we didn't get to the park until after 8pm so it was too dark for a semi long run & so we settled on just over 3 miles.
We just about managed to finish even that as it was getting darker by the minute & by the last mile & a half we could not clearly see the path in front of us.
Its was a bit silly really as it is a very dangerous thing to do. It wasn't the danger of being attacked by a madman (I don't mean Phil. Ha ha), but the danger of falling & hurting myself. I have noticed lately that I am becoming increasingly worried that I am going to fall & twist my ankle or my knee. I have even become afraid of running on the grass in case i fall into a pothole or ditch or something. After all the hard work I have put into training, I would be devastated to injure myself at any point between now & the marathon.
That means last night was a first & last as I won't be running in the dark again.
Over all the run itself was grand, my legs felt good & my lungs felt good. Phil started sprinting though, half way up the Furze Road & for some reason I am really bad at sprinting but seeing as it was dark I didn't really want to stay behind so i followed with a sprint too.
Anyway we're out again tonight hopefully for our 7 mile run & it will definitely be in day light!

Those fears are well founded when running in the Park. When I lived in England, and lived in a small country village, I had to do most of my winter training on a treadmill becasue it was too dark to run outside. At least here in Dublin we do have street lights and winters running Collins and Griffiths Avenue are ahead of us!

You could run with a headlamp, as I do when it's 5 am in the morning, but it's preferable to run during daylight.

The paranoia about getting sick/injured is perfectly normal, and will only get worse until marathon day. The last week before the start I can't even get out of bed without experiencing some imaginary pain in my leg/knee/ankle/hip/whatever else could hurt. Once you're running, you're miraculously cured.
